The Urban Counterculture

After a brief hiatus, The Urban Counterculture is back! I apologize for the lack of engagement this year; however, there was good reason. Both my eldest sister and my father passed within a month of each other early in 2011. Since then I have been through an intense process of healing and development. With the time off came an improved perspective on many things, including this online community.

This community continues to grow, even when it is not active, because the concept behind it is a mainstay – there MUST be an alternative to mainstream urban culture. The culture of urban American is highly materialistic, anti-intellectual, hyperemotional, and sexually charged. The culture of the inner city amplifies these negative values and adds a respect for criminal lifestyles and/or activity. These counterproductive mentalities and traits keep those who subscribe to them enslaved to self-satisfaction, which often leads to poor health, poor decision making, and social dysfunction. The more of us who go against the grain and support individuals, families and organizations who do the same, the greater chances for success that will be afforded to the next generation.

The opinions given here are clearly minority opinions and they will most likely always be. That is a fact of life. Our real value lies not in our ability to convert the masses, but our ability to stand strong in spite of them. Those who seek something more meaningful, more positive, and more liberating need somewhere to go and someone to help guide them as they sojourn toward truth. The Urban Counterculture must continue to stand – and we will.
